Day 1: Nur-Sultan (optional)

You’ll arrive into Nur-Sultan in the early hours and settle into your hotel before embarking on a city tour, visiting the Kayterek Tower and Independence Monument, then visit the National Museum of Kazakhstan to lay eyes on some incredible relics. The Astana Mosque, Atameken Ethno Memorial Complex, and Alzhir Memorial Complex are also on the list before you spend the rest of the day at leisure. (Meals: breakfast)

Day 2: Nur-Sultan - Almaty (optional)

After breakfast, you’ll catch a quick flight to Almaty, the former capital and beating heart of the country. In the afternoon you’ll explore the city on a tour; highlights include the Cathedral of Ascension, constructed entirely from wood, the Museum of Musical Instruments, and the Green Bazaar, an authentically bustling market. You’ll also ascend by cable car to the resort of Shymulak. (Meals: breakfast)

Day 3: Almaty - Tashkent (optional)

Depart this morning for your flight to Uzbekistan’s capital, Tashkent. On arrival you’ll transfer to the hotel, then be free to start exploring the city. (Meals: breakfast)

Day 4: Tashkent - Urgench - Khiva

After breakfast at the hotel, visit the old part of Tashkent. Explore Khasti Imom Square, the Madrasa Barak Kan, the Madrasa Kaffal Shoshi, the Moyie Mubarek Library, the Kukeldash Madrasa and the Madrasa Abul Kasim. Later, discover the oriental bazaar of Chorsu, and afterwards, transfer to the airport to board a flight to Urgench. Arrive and transfer to Khiva. (Meals: breakfast)

Day 5: Khiva

After breakfast at the hotel, head to the Itchan-Kala architectural complex of Khiva, a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Explore the Kunya Ark Castle, the madrasah Mohammed Rakhmin Khan and the minaret of Islam Khodja. Next, visit the Tash Hovli Palace, the Mausoleum of Pahlavan Mahmud and the Juma Mosque or Friday Mosque. (Meals: breakfast)

Day 6: Khiva - Bukhara

After breakfast at the hotel, depart to Bukhara, southeast of Khiva. During the journey, cross the Kizil-Kum desert and see the historic Amudaria river, which marks the border with Kazakhstan. Arrive in the afternoon, transfer to the hotel and check-in for two nights. (Meals: breakfast)

Day 7: Bukhara

After breakfast at the hotel, enjoy a city tour of Bukhara. Visit the Mausoleum of the Samani, the holy spring of Chashmai Ayub, the charming Bolo Hauz Mosque and the Ark Citadel. In the afternoon, visit the Kalyan minaret, the Poi Kalyan Mosque, the Toki Sarafon dome and the Lyabi Hauz architectural complex. (Meals: breakfast)

Day 8: Bukhara - Samarkand

After breakfast at the hotel, transfer to the city of Samarkand. Arrive in Samarkand and in the afternoon, take a guided visit of the city. See Registan Square, and admire spectacular 15th and 16th-century madrasas. Next, visit the Guri Emir Mausoleum, to explore the tomb of Tamerlane, the Bibi-Khanum Mosque and the Siab Bazaar. (Meals: breakfast)

Day 9: Samarkand - Tashkent

After breakfast at the hotel, visit the architectural complex of Shakhi-Zinda, the museum of the ancient city of Afrosiab and the Ulughbek observatory, dating back to the 15th century. In the afternoon, transfer to the station to board a high-speed train back to Tashkent. (Meals: breakfast)

Day 10: Tashkent

After breakfast at the hotel, explore the city at your leisure or take an optional morning tour of the highlights of the city, visiting the History Museum of Uzbekistan, the White Mosque and the Metro system (£36 per person). (Meals: breakfast)

Day 11: Tashkent - Night on board

After breakfast at the hotel, transfer to the airport for your return flight back to the UK and spend the night on board.
