A quintessential 17th-century country village pub in the Cotswolds, with eight beautiful cosy rooms and excellent food – includes breakfast and two-course dinner

The rural village of Kelmscott was once described by William Morris as ‘a heaven on earth’, and many today might well agree. Kelmscott is a beautiful Cotswolds hamlet to relax and unwind in, and yet not feel completely isolated. Start the day with a fulsome breakfast served in the restaurant, and then take a walk up the Thames Path and admire the breath-taking views, or venture to one of the many nearby sites, including Kelmscott Manor and Buscot Park.

After a day of exploring, return to The Plough Inn for a delicious meal and enjoy a drink or two in the bar, which is replete with flagstones, exposed beams and cosy corners. There are roaring fires in the winter and a divine garden for summer – this quaint traditional pub is truly a home away from home.

Good to know

This is a very rural area with limited public transport, so it's best to arrive by car.

The restaurant doesn’t serve food on Sunday or Monday evenings. We recommend dining at sister property The Five Alls at Filkins, just a 10-minute drive away.

Highlights

  • The enchanting and peaceful countryside setting – Kelmscott is full of character and very relaxing
  • An easy romantic weekender - bring bikes, or go walking along the Thames Path, then enjoy a wonderful dinner in the restaurant
  • This place holds appeal all year round; spring and summer are idyllic as the garden blooms and the sun shines, but the pub and restaurant are cosy havens during the colder months too
