How to get there

The Ickworth is around 80 miles away from London and takes roughly an hour and a half to drive. By rail, Bury St. Edmunds train station is three miles away, and you can get a taxi from the station to the hotel.


  • Historic grandeur: The Ickworth is found within the grand Ickworth stately home, a National Trust property which dates back to the early 1800s and is one of the country's most spectacular mansions. All rooms have period furnishings in keeping with the grand heritage of the estate, and some rooms feature lovely views over the estate.

  • R&R: Just a minute's walk away is a lovely heated indoor swimming pool, and within the hotel itself you'll find contemporary treatment rooms where massages, facials and reflexology treatments using the Elemis product range are available. Jessica manicures and pedicures are also on hand. If you're looking for something more active, play tennis on the hotel's courts or hire a bike to explore the National Trust parkland.

How to get there

The Ickworth is an hour and a half's drive from central London, following the M11 Northbound to Great Chesterford, where you'll join the A11 which eventually merges with the A14. Stay on the A14 until junction 42, from there it's a further 10 miles to the hotel. On-site parking is available at no extra cost. 

If you'd rather come via public transport, hop aboard the train to Bury St Edmunds and get a taxi from the station - it's a 15-minute ride.   

Travelling with kids?

The hotel offers plenty of services for younger visitors, from the kids' menu in the restaurant to the complimentary bottle-warming room service. In-room baby monitors are available, with staff on hand listening so parents can relax. 

Moving outside, you’ll find a kids' play area with a fairy garden theme. It’s well-equipped, with a trampoline, climbing frames, swings and more. There’s a tennis court too, with equipment available from reception. The heated indoor swimming pool is stocked with floats and noodles.

Back in the guest rooms, you’ll find child-friendly facilities upon request, such as a changing mat, bottle steriliser, potty, nappy bins and bed guards.

The Ickworth Estate offers plenty of excitement for visitors of all ages, from short rambles through beautiful gardens to long bike rides through dense and varied forests, where you'll see all manner of deer and bird life. Guests can play tennis or make the 15-minute journey to the nearby Bury St. Edmunds 18-hole Golf Club.

Keen horse riders (or novices for that matter) can sign up for riding lessons at the nearby Barrow Hall Stables and anglers will enjoy being just 15 minutes from one of the country's premier trout fisheries at Larkwood.
