A Thailand trip covering Bangkok, Phuket, the historic sights of the River Kwai and UNESCO protected Sukhothai Historical Park, with excursions, travel and airport lounge access on departure
Thailand is so rich with tropical beauty and cultural heritage that it’s almost impossible to pick one area to visit. And you don’t have to - on this carefully curated getaway, you can spend time in four of the country’s most iconic and fascinating destinations, with enriching activities and and hassle-free transfers included.
No trip to Thailand would be complete without a stay in the capital. Brimming with energy, Bangkok has some of the most impressive bars and restaurants in Asia, as well as grand palaces and supersized temples. Zip between landmarks and malls by tuk-tuk, sample exotic street food and shop for local produce at a unique floating market.
About three and a half hours north-west of Bangkok, Kanchanaburi is home to some of Thailand’s most breathtaking natural scenery, which you can explore in a long-tail boat and on a guided jungle trek to a tribal village. Blanketed in protected jungle and interspersed with lakes, caves and waterfalls, this intriguing region near the border with Myanmar is an adventurer’s dream. It’s also, of course, where the tracks of the notorious Death Railway were laid during the Second World War. Here, you’ll visit a number of the area’s most important sites, including the Thailand–Burma Railway Centre, Hellfire Pass Memorial, the famed Bridge over the River Kwai and the historic Death Railway Train.
Next, you’ll travel north, further off the beaten path, to discover the remains of the Sukhothai Kingdom. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Sukhothai Historical Park is a window into Thailand’s “golden age” and covers an area of around 70 square kilometres. Take a tricycle ride around the Old Town, visit ancient temples and try your hand at traditional crafts.
It’s time to return to Bangkok, but you won’t be checking in to your next hotel just yet. First, you’ll take the very short flight down to Phuket for a spot of relaxation on what is arguably the world’s most glamorous island. Away from the masses in the quiet north, Dewa Phuket has the protected Sirinath National Park as a lush natural backdrop, with untouched Nai Yang beach on your doorstep. It only takes a minute to wander down to the dreamy Andaman shore, but you won’t even need to go that far for a dip - you’ll be staying in a luxurious private-pool villa, after all.
The amazing range of activities and excursions in Kanchanaburi and Sukhothai
The luxury of a private-pool villa at your beachfront Phuket resort
Privilege Club access at Mercure Sukhumvit 11 - a nice perk to round off the trip
