  • Castle living: You’ll find there are multiple ‘pinch me’ moments during your stay at Bilderberg Château Holtmühle. Whether it’s when you pass over the moat on arrival and first see the beautiful building, or when you set eyes on the sweeping staircase in the main hall, this luxurious pad will leave you with nothing to be desired. Even though this Tripadvisor Travellers’ Choice hotel has a certain contemporary flair, it still retains vestiges of its historical classicism, be this exposed stone walls or wooden beams, which leaves you in doubt you're staying in next-level digs.

  • Delightful dining: Set in the mediaeval vaulted cellar, the Die Alde Heerlickheijt restaurant is a delightful centre of French cuisine with oriental influences. The kitchen exclusively uses fresh, honest ingredients, many from the local Limburg region, and most of the herbs come straight from the hotel’s own herb garden. In addition to the food, there are plenty of fine Limburg wines from Vijlen's St Martinus vineyard, so you can be sure to find the perfect pairing to any dish.

  • Scenic surroundings: Limburg is well known for its outstanding natural beauty, be that in the thick green forests, winding rivers or sprawling fields. Leave your worries and woes behind you as you set out on foot, or by bike, to explore this stunning region, and if you prefer urban settings, then there are some charming towns and cities nearby like Venlo and Arcen. There’s also a golf course not far away, and shopaholics will no doubt want to flock to the Designer Outlet Roermond, where there are over 100 shops and 200 designer brands at discounts of up to 70%.

Kasteellaan 10, 5932 AG Venlo, Netherlands

The lively city of Venlo dates back to the Roman times in part, and while it has retained much of its historic charm, today it’s a thriving metropolis of culture, shopping and entertainment. The city has amazing architecture, with Gothic and Renaissance buildings like The Sint Martinusbasiliek, The Romerhuis and the Venlo town house that are well worth a visit.

The city centre was awarded the best in all the Netherlands in 2013 and 2015 for its excellent shopping opportunities; particularly popular is the weekly market on Saturdays. A recent project in Venlo is to make it the largest wine cultivation region in the Netherlands, and even today, the first few bottles of Venlo wine are already a high success.
