A grand, Grade II listed Gothic revival abbey in the leafy Worcestershire countryside - with breakfast, dinner, a bottle of wine, late check-out and a suite option

  • Exuding a harmonious air from its many years as a sanctuary for Benedictine nuns, Stanbrook Abbey is a resplendent Grade II listed red-brick sitting on 30 acres of lush countryside. This quintessential English estate, befitting the likes of Jane Austen characters, has of course secured a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence.

  • With elegant dining rooms serving fine local and British produce, you're in for a feast that suits your surrounds. Indulge in exquisite flavour combinations at the restaurant, sip on delicate infusions and feast on scones and sandwiches for afternoon tea, or pop to the colourful George's Bar for a tipple and light bites.

  • Complete with a poetic tree-laced lake and orchard, plus gung-ho British activities on offer, like croquet and gin-tasting (served with scrumptious canapes, of course), you’ll feel like British aristocracy here. Stanbrook Abbey's library bar is a treasured spot for some page-turning and the highly Gothic Callow Great Hall chapel is a must-see too.

  • Rooms here are classic and comfortable in style, with modern furnishings and period light fixtures. Executive Double rooms are extra special, with large beds and fine bed linens. Located in the main Abbey, with views over the courtyard or the grounds, Junior suites feature not only a roll top bathtub, but a roomy living area too.

Highlights

Do try to pull yourself away from the estate, if you can, to check out Worcester, a 15-minute drive away. Here, you'll see the 12th-century cathedral and the famous River Severn snaking through the city in which classical composer, Edward Elgar, thrived. The refreshing Malvern Hills are an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty a 12-minute drive south, and a good place for an energising ramble. If you drive further south, you'll reach the north of the Cotswolds in just under an hour, the perfect place for some wholesome country walks and even more wholesome pub lunches afterwards.
