All 54 bedrooms have just benefitted from the hotel’s multi-million-pound revamp, leaving them spanking new and clean as a whistle. The hotel still retains all of its lovely Jacobean charms, but with modern additions like lightning-fast complimentary Wi-Fi and posh cushions. Rooms are outfitted in a plush, country style, with cloud-like beds and local artworks on the walls including maps of the area. Superior rooms offer 18-25sqm of space, while Deluxe rooms offer a more generous 27-31sqm with real attention to detail.

Dinner is best enjoyed at the newly refurbed 1042 Restaurant, where you’ll find refined pub grub classics like ale-battered fish and chips, hung steaks from Scottish Buccleuch farmers and local artisan cheese boards. Bring your own clubs or hire them from the hotel – Selsdon Park’s golf club was designed by JH Taylor in the 1920s and is popular with guests and locals alike. If you prefer a more sedate approach to wellness, the hotel’s swimming pool is open 8am-8pm (longer hours during the week) and offers a sauna, steam room and Jacuzzi for the ultimate relaxation.
