Property details

Luxurious holiday apartments in the historic centre of Luino, near the banks of Lake Maggiore - includes a bottle of prosecco
  • Lakeside living: Residenza Porto Vecchio offers a variety of chic private holiday homes on the shores of Lake Maggiore. The apartments are stylish and finely furnished, with fully equipped kitchens, spacious living areas and charming outdoor seating areas.

  • Zero-mile food: Cooking at your leisure was never so easy, and with your own kitchen the sky’s the limit when it comes to your culinary experience. If, however, you fancy a day off, then the lakeside Restaurant Tiffany is a one-stop destination for unforgettable cuisine. With ‘seasonality’ and ‘authenticity’ as the watch words, the menu consists largely of zero-mile ingredients that are whipped up to create a symphony of traditional Mediterranean flavours.

  • Active lake life: From cycle trails and walking tours to water sports and wellness, Lake Maggiore is a veritable utopia of exciting activity. The lake, which is surrounded by historic parks and enchanting gardens, has some 11 islands on it, which have striking palaces and castles that look like something straight out of a Bond film. You couldn’t hope for a more picturesque setting to retreat to on your holidays.

How to get there

Residenza Porto Vecchio is in the Italian town of Luino, on the shores of Lake Maggiore. It’s about a 40-minute drive from Switzerland’s Lugano Airport, or Milan Malpensa Airport takes about an hour and ten minutes by car. If you arrive with your own car there are parking facilities.

Good to know

Please note, the private holiday homes are dispersed around the local area and some are closer to Lake Maggiore than others. None of the apartments have a view of the lake or the verdant hills, but they are located about 150 metres from the lake, in the historic centre of Luino, in the old fishing village.

Please note that check-in must be done at the reception of Relais Villa Porta in Colmegna, approximately five minutes' drive away. Guests can enjoy the Jacuzzi, sauna, and green beach with umbrellas and deck chairs at Villa Porta.

When you stay here, it’s all about the lake life. Lake Maggiore is your playground, and you’re really not going to be kicking your heels for things to do. There's plenty of opportunity for fun activities like sailing, kitesurfing and water skiing, with several vendors in the area facilitating the water sports. Perhaps just as popular is the wealth of possibilities when it comes to biking by the lake – Residenza Porto Vecchio is actually part of the Italy Bike Hotels Network, a national consortium that promotes visiting the area for the purpose of biking. The mountains shielding the northern shores of the lake means the climate is fairly mild all year round, so cyclists need not worry about oppressive heat, and the Province of Varese (known as the Terra dei Laghi, or the Land of the Lakes) makes for a sublime cycling environment.
