Day 1: UK - Dambulla

Arrive at Bandaranaike International airport and meet your driver in the arrivals lounge, before transferring to your hotel.

Day 2: Dambulla

In the morning, you can opt to visit the UNESCO World Heritage site of Sigiriya Rock, the ancient fortress, to discover the palace ruins and extensive garden remains (chargeable).

In the afternoon, you’ll enjoy an authentic Hiriwadunna village experience, including a trek and cooking demonstration, using vegetables you purchase at the market. You’ll take a scenic catamaran ride across the lake to meet a local family.

Day 3: Dambulla - Kandy

It’s onwards to Kandy today; en-route you’ll visit the UNESCO-listed and awe-inspiring Dambulla Cave Temple, as well as a historical Ayurvedic village, known for its spices. You can also opt to visit the 147-acre Royal Botanical Gardens, just outside of Kandy.

Day 4: Kandy

Immerse yourself in local Kandy culture with a city and shopping tour today, touring the picturesque hills and passing Kandy Lake. You’ll also visit the famed Temple of the Tooth, one of the holiest places in the world for Buddhists. Enjoy a cultural show in the evening.

Day 5: Kandy - Haputale

On your way to Haputale, you’ll visit an intriguing tea plantation and factory, where you’ll discover how Ceylon tea is produced. Subject to availability, you’ll also board a scenic train ride from Nanu Oya to Haputale.

Day 6: Haputale - Udawalawe

It’s an early start today, as you board a tuk-tuk to Lipton Seat, the most famous viewpoint in the area. You can also opt to enjoy a Jeep safari at Udawalawe National Park, famous for its elephants, later in the day.

Distance from Haputale: 85km

Day 7: Udawalawe - Kalutara

Opt to observe elephant feeding time, depending on your departure time, before setting out towards the beach city of Kalutara. En-route, you’ll visit the island’s most southerly point, Galle Fort, arguably the most well-preserved sea fort in South Asia.

Distance from Udawalawe: 140km

Days 8-11/14: Kalutara

After a week of adventures, you'll head to the west coast for a beach break near Kalutara, around an hour south of Colombo. Relax on golden sands on the mellow Indian Ocean coastline, which can easily be explored by train on the ambling South Coast Line.
