A five-star historic golf estate voted Ireland's Leading Hotel at the World Travel Awards - with access to the award-winning spa and dinner on one night

Country escapes don't get much more impressive than this. Nestled within the sprawling Powerscourt Estate, Powerscourt Hotel Resort & Spa sets the standard for luxury spa and golf retreats, with five-star status, an award-winning spa, delectable dining and a championship-standard golf complex within its generous remit. Better still, it's located just half an hour from Dublin, making it a hassle-free find. This stately pad is a Travellers' Choice favourite among Ireland's Top 25 Luxury Hotels on TripAdvisor and the current AA Ireland Hotel of the Year, and was also recently voted Ireland's Leading Hotel at the 23rd World Travel Awards.

If rejuvenation is what you need, the 30,000-square-foot ESPA awaits. Unwind amid the sparkles of the Swarovski crystal-lit pool or find some balance and calm in the amethyst crystal steam room. The grounds themselves offer their own slice of serenity, with perfectly maintained gardens and Ireland's highest waterfall to discover. Take a stroll along the Dargle River via the estate's five-kilometre set trail, or hop on a bicycle to find a secluded spot for a picnic.

When it comes to dining, you're not short of refined settings here. On the third floor, Sika Restaurant exudes elegance and shows off stunning vistas over the Sugar Loaf Mountain and features the best contemporary Irish cuisine, while afternoon tea is served daily in the Sugar Loaf Lounge. No trip to Ireland would be complete without an authentic Irish pub visit, and McGills is on hand for a perfectly poured pint after a day on the fairways.

Dining

There are three distinct dining options here. The restaurant uses the very best of the locale's seasonal ingredients to create innovative and impressive dishes - opt for a space at the Chef's Table to witness the masters at work. Meanwhile, the lounge takes shape as an elegant Georgian parlour, serving afternoon tea, light meals and cocktails. If a good old-fashioned pub is the order of the evening, seek out the Irish pub, serving traditional ales and firm favourites. The Spa also houses its own cafe, serving light dishes and herbals infusions.

Wellness

The award-winning ESPA is a true pampering experience, providing everything you need to utterly relax. Contemporary and spacious, ESPA is the definition of refined. Elements from the stunning natural landscape have been incorporated into its interiors, with stone, wood and slate featuring in many of the impressive spaces. There are 20 treatment rooms, including a private spa suite, a 20-metre Swarovski crystal-lit heated pool, a thermal suite and a fitness studio.

If you're hoping for a treatment, advanced booking is recommended.

Golf

You'll find a 36-hole championship-standard golf complex set within the estate's grounds and just a short stroll from the resort. There are two courses to choose from here. The East Course was designed by Walker Cup Captain, Peter McEvoy, and has garnered a reputation as one of the finest golf courses in Ireland. The course features both parkland and moorland with links characteristics, and measures 6,412 metres from the championship tees. The West Course was designed by David McLay Kidd and is a parkland course with links characteristics. This course plays 6,345 metres from the championship tees.

Preferential tee times can be arranged for resort guests; advanced booking is recommended.

Location

The hotel is located in the tranquil woodlands of County Wicklow, on Ireland's east coast. The estate itself is one of Ireland's finest, with a beautiful historic house, stunning manicured gardens and the highest waterfall in the country. Its setting in the valley affords wonderful views, and you can see over to Great Sugar Loaf Mountain which lies beyond the woodlands. Despite this peaceful setting, Dublin is just half an hour away.
