Visit the highlights of Peru with two magical train journeys; on the Vistadome to Machu Picchu and 1920s-style Perurail to Lake Titicaca - includes breakfast and exciting excursions

Day 1: UK - Lima

Fly from your UK departure airport to Lima, Peru’s vivacious capital. Spend the rest of your day at leisure; why not start exploring the charming Miraflores neighbourhood, where you’ll be based. (Meals: none)

Day 2: Lima

Embark on a tour of the city today, taking in Huaca Pucllana, Lima’s historic centre and modern downtown areas, the Central Bank Museum, San Francisco Catacombs and the Plaza Mayor, cathedral and City Hall). (Meals: breakfast)

Day 3: Lima - Cusco - Sacred Valley

After breakfast this morning you’ll transfer to the airport for your flight to Cusco. On arrival, you’ll drive towards the Sacred Valley, stopping in Chincheros en route, a picturesque village known for its traditional Andean weaving techniques. Browse the technicoloured markets, then spend the rest of the day at leisure in Urubamba. (Meals: breakfast)

Day 4: Sacred Valley

Delve deeper into the Sacred Valley today, with visits to historically significant Inca sights. First up is Pisac, then you’ll stop in Urubamba for lunch, before moving on to Ollantaytambo, whose narrow streets have changed little since the Inca empire. (Meals: breakfast)

Day 5: Sacred Valley - Machu Picchu

Rise early this morning, for your train journey to Aguas Calientes; the gateway Machu Picchu. Be treated to majestic views as you journey to this Inca wonder on the iconic Vistadome train, which boasts panoramic windows, then spend two hours on a walking tour of the site with your guide. After this, you’ll have the rest of the afternoon to explore this mysterious city by yourself. (Meals: breakfast)

Day 6: Machu Picchu - Cusco

You’ll have free time in Aguas Calientes this morning - the perfect opportunity to explore more of Peru’s lost city. If you saw enough yesterday, treat yourself to a relaxing soak in the hot springs. In the afternoon, board the train back to Cusco. (Meals: breakfast)

Day 7: Cusco

Today you’ll have some time to explore Cusco, Peru’s former Inca capital. Enjoy a city tour with your guide, visiting the famous cathedral and the Temple of the Sun, as well as the Sacsayhuaman ruins. This evening, you can opt to attend a folklore show and dinner ($25 per person). (Meals: breakfast)

Day 8: Cusco

You’ll have a free day in Cusco today. Explore at your own pace or opt to attend a cooking class ($40 per person), embark on a visit to Rainbow Mountain ($90 per person) or the Maras and Moray archaeological sites ($40 per person). (Meals: breakfast)

Day 9: Cusco - Puno

The adventure continues early today with your journey to Puno by train. Modelled on the 1920s Pullman trains cars, this train, and the journey it takes, is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful in the world. You’ll spend 10 hours on board, enjoying the magical views and the finest in gourmet food from the dining car. (Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner)

Day 10: Puno

It’s another early morning today, and you’ll be setting out to explore the traditional islands of Uros and Taquile. Meet the locals, whose families have lived on these islands for thousands of years. Learn about the reed-weaving techniques that make Taquile famous, then explore on your own before returning to Puno. (Meals: breakfast)

Day 11: Puno - Lima

After breakfast, transfer to Juliaca Airport for your flight back to Lima. Spend the rest of the evening at leisure. (Meals: breakfast)

Day 12: Lima - UK
