Olea All Suite Hotel, Tsilivi, Zakynthos 291 00, Greece

The island of Zakynthos is a rocky gem cast adrift in the Ionian Sea, surrounded by sparkling waters that lap onto paradisiacal white beaches or up against sheer cliffs. The rocky, hill-strewn interior is carpeted in olive trees and small, tumbledown villages – many now abandoned after the earthquake in 1953. The island offers many facets to suit all visitors: thriving nightlife in Zakynthos Town or Laganas, exploring the island’s history at the Venetian Castle or its forgotten villages, snorkelling and watersports on its beautiful beaches (a trip to Marathonisi ‘turtle island’ to learn about the endangered loggerhead sea turtles is a must-do) or sampling the delicious fresh Mediterranean cuisine in one of the island’s excellent-family run tavernas.

The resort is set in the upscale resort of Tsilivi on the northeast coast of Zakynthos, located amid olive groves atop a hill with panoramic views of the Ionian Sea, far removed from the hustle and bustle, but with easy access to Tsilivi town and its restaurants and bars. If it's golden sands and turquoise waters you're after, Tsilivi Beach is around a 10-minute walk from the hotel.
