Thurnfeldgasse 1, 6060 Hall in Tirol, Austria

The idyllic town of Hall in Tirol - also known as ‘Hall’ - is widely regarded as one of Austria’s most beautiful, and blends old-world charm with cutting-edge modernity and a lively urban scene. With a rich history dating back to the Middle Ages, this former trading and salt-mining hub still houses one of the country’s best-preserved medieval towns, so be sure to make time for scenic strolls through winding streets past pretty pastel-hued Gothic buildings. Hall is also known as the birthplace of the dollar, and proudly sports a 300-year stint as the epicentre of coin manufacturing - you can learn all about it at the famous Hasegg Castle and Mint Museum.

Stay within the town walls to sample an array of local shops, bars and eateries, and keep an eye out for a variety of literary, food and cultural festivals hosted throughout the year. For something a little different, head out into the surrounding Inn Valley and Hall-Wattens region for plenty of panoramic hiking and cycling routes, or take the 20-minute journey to the state capital of Innsbruck for cosmopolitan thrills and more enchanting period architecture.
