An authentic rural abode housing an old mill, spa facilities and seasonal dining, in Brittany's coastal Moëlan-sur-Mer region - with breakfast plus dining and wellness options

Surrounded by 30 acres of river-threaded, forested grounds, Les Moulins du Duc is an utterly charming bolthole housed on the grounds of a 16th-century flour mill in Moëlan-sur-Mer – a wild stretch of coastline in beautiful Brittany. Since its transformation into a hotel in the 1960s, Les Moulins du Duc has drawn in an impressive crowd – even the Queen Mother is said to have visited for lunch.

Following another refurb in 2010, Les Moulins du Duc is once again on the map as a secluded hideaway where guests can easily unplug and enjoy a spot of authentic French hospitality – so authentic, in fact, that this property has received a much-coveted Symboles de France accolade from the Historic Hotels of Europe, a testament to its unique character and savoir-vivre.

You'll know you've stumbled upon a rare gem, thanks to the hotel's collection of classic rooms and suites, rustic spa and gourmet Michelin-recommended restaurant – which has even earned itself a spot on the esteemed Tables et Auberges de France listings. Head chef Laurent Jouault takes the helm in the kitchen, rustling up a seasonal menu of local dishes with global influences. The next morning, work off excesses with a few laps in the indoor pool at the spa or, if that feels like too much hard work, book in for a massage followed by a snooze in the relaxation room, overlooking the forested surrounds.
