A longstanding kingpin with an elaborate Georgian façade and modern interiors in King's Lynn

Standing on the site of what was the Gryffen Inn until 1683, The Dukes Head Hotel retains an air of historic tradition even though it's only the main staircase of its former incarnation that remains. The recent three million pound refurbishment has brought the building sympathetically up to date, now affording the luxury that Princess Victoria would have enjoyed when she stayed here in 1835.

Norfolk is a mecca for holiday makers seeking space and tranquility. Discover tiny villages or visit market towns for local produce shopping and charming cobbled streets. Stroll along Norfolk's seemingly endless coastline for a real sense of 'getting away from it all' in this picture-perfect part of England. Take a boat ride to Blakenley Point and see the thousands of grey seals that rest there year-round, or travel on The Poppy Line to experience one of the UK's most scenic heritage railways.

Try to catch a market day (Saturday or Tuesday) in King's Lynn to experience this historic town in full swing. King's Lynn's history as an important port town is prevalent - look out for old merchants' houses and the Custom House as you stroll around town. Whether you've walked, cycled, sailed or sat your day away, return to the comfort of The Dukes Head for a well-earned dinner at Turners.
