Alsergrund is Vienna’s 9th district, to the north of the city centre. It’s an elegant area with 19th-century buildings, home to the University of Vienna campus and its previous residents include musician Shubert, composer Mahler and father of psychoanalysis, Sigmund Freud. Visit Freud’s former home, now a museum, a 20-minute walk away, and wander the leafy surrounds of Augarten.
