A boutique chateau hotel between Nice and Antibes, with medieval features and glorious views – includes breakfast and arrival transfers from Cagnes-sur-Mer
A little local history when you’re staying in a hilltop chateau in Provence is expected, but the Michelin Guide-recommended Château Le Cagnard has it in spades. Built in the 13th century as part of the city walls of exquisite Haut-de-Cagnes, right by Cagnes-sur-Mer, it’s a beautiful maze of medieval stone arches, grand old fireplaces and tumbledown turrets, all dripping with deep-green vines.
From the intimate lounge to the charming guard room, there are plenty of nooks to sneak off to with a book, and the terrace is the pick of them when the weather allows, with its spectacular views of the Med. The pièce de résistance here is the magical restaurant, where fine Mediterranean cuisine can be served under the stars on warm nights in the frescoed dining room with retracting ceiling.
Nice and the Bay of Antibes are just a few miles away, so be sure to drop in on some of the stars’ favourite haunts while you’re in the area – from Belle Epoque Cannes and moneyed Monaco to the crystal beaches of Beaulieu and Villefranche. It's no wonder Château Le Cagnard pocketed a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence.
