When it comes to dining, think rich flavours and locally sourced ingredients rather than saintly health foods. Choose between two delectable gourmet restaurants and a truly English afternoon tea menu, offering home-baked scones, pastries, cakes, finger sandwiches, tea and thick clotted cream.

AG's Restaurant is a gourmet, three AA Rosette-awarded delight with imaginative food and artistic presentation. Expect dishes like halibut fillet with squid ink puree, guinea fowl breast with truffle pomme mousseline, and braised pig cheek with apricots. Desserts are just as adventurous, with delicacies like passionfruit parfait with caramelised white chocolate sorbet, and lemon verbena panna cotta with elderflower and peach sorbet. Alongside boasting its very own champagne bar, Reflections Restaurant is a modern brasserie serving bistro classics and light snacks.

Spa

This award-winning Utopia Spa has quite a setting. Its dramatic indoor pool is framed by Roman-style pillars, its spa rooms are tranquil hideaways and there's even a peaceful spa garden. Voted the best spa for romance by the SpaFinder Readers Choice Awards 2012, this is a quiet and softly lit retreat, complete with bubble tubs, saunas and steam areas.

You can book a huge range of specialised and holistic treatments, which include facials, body treatments, aromatherapy, pregnancy treatments and Ila treatments. There's also a full-service salon where you can get your hair cut and your nails done, plus a gym and fitness studio.

Please be aware that spa access is chargeable, unless you have booked a treatment as a hotel guest. The spa is only available to guests aged 18 and above. Please pre-book any treatments directly with the hotel prior to arrival.

Location

Set in a historic country estate within 170 acres of pretty gardens, this peaceful spa hotel is close to the traditional village of Turners Hill in West Sussex. The hotel is just a short drive from Gatwick Airport, yet is surrounded on all sides by glorious countryside. The hotel offers the use of mountain bikes throughout your stay, so you can explore the surrounding rural landscape. You can also borrow wellies and hit the designated trekking trail within the grounds.

How to get there

Just under six miles from the hotel, Crawley or East Grinstead train stations both have regular services to London. Gatwick Airport is around 10 miles away. If you're coming via road, get off at junction 10 on the M23; on-site parking is available.
