Thanks to a thoughtful restoration, the hotel has opened up its 12th-century doors to welcome guests who can enjoy the Volturno River views.

• Italian eats: As its name suggests, The Stables a la carte restaurant is located in what once was the Castle’s stables. Beneath its ornate wooden ceiling, you’ll find history has been kind and the chefs draw on the region’s traditions and local produce in their colourful lunch and dinner menus. A classic Italian breakfast of pastries and coffee is also served.
