A gourmet five-star stay in Dartmoor National Park, with award-winning dining - breakfast and a seven-course tasting menu included

In a scenic valley on the edge of Dartmoor, Bovey Castle is a fantastic monument to turn of the century grandeur. The design is executed in Elizabethan style and offers an insight into the bygone lifestyle of English Lords and Ladies. Gazing out over the great, rugged bracken-covered wilderness of Dartmoor beyond there's a sense of immense scale. High ornate ceilings and vast panoramic windows provide the setting for taking in the landscape views, perhaps over a spot of similarly expansive Bovey Castle afternoon tea.

The AA five-star Bovey Castle boasts a tranquil spa with a wide array of individually tailored treatments to perfectly complement the peace of the area. A gym and stunning Art Deco swimming pool also boast lovely views out over the terrace and River Bovey. The list of outdoor activities available is almost endless and includes archery, clay pigeon shooting, hot air ballooning, mountain biking and fly fishing. Attend a sloe gin-making (and drinking!) session or try your hand at Crolf, the Bovey Castle's very own eccentric new sport. There's also a championship 18-hole golf course and a 4x4 off-road track.

Castle rooms are large in size with views over the courtyard and the woodlands beyond. All the guest rooms have been recently refurbished and the décor is classically elegant, with luxurious furniture and individual wall decorations.

Room amenities:

- Flatscreen TV
- Tea and coffee facilities
- Wi-Fi access
- Fluffy bathrobes and slippers

The Great Western restaurant boasts three AA Rosettes for its food and recalls the old glamour of its Art Deco origins when the hotel was owned by Great Western Railway in its interior design. Where possible, all ingredients are sourced locally, including game shot on the moors, lamb and aged Exmoor beef, plus seafood from Devon and Cornwall.

Smith’s Brasserie is a gastropub serving an array of classic British dishes using the finest locally sourced ingredients and offers a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere, spectacular countryside views and a roaring fire pit.

As well as using top-quality ESPA products, the Elan Spa at Bovey Castle offers bespoke and therapeutic treatments such as purifying facials, salt and oil body scrubs, holistic Indian head massages and a ritual for pregnant women. Facilities include a heated swimming pool, Jacuzzi, sauna, steam room and gym with cardiovascular equipment and weights.

At Bovey Castle, there's very little excuse for not enjoying the fantastic Dartmoor setting. There are tours of the area on foot or in a Land Rover, guided by experts in the region's history and geography. Tour the locations that feature in Stephen Spielberg's War Horse, or see the landscape from above with a hot air balloon ride, available locally.
