Evanik Chic Hotel, ΚΑΛΑΜΙΩΤΙΣΣΑ, Kalimnos 852 00, Greece

Kalymnos is a less-visited haven and something of an undiscovered paradise for culture lovers and beach bums alike. Along with plenty of picturesque streets, cute souvenir shops and authentic tavernas serving up fresh seafood, the capital town of Pothia boasts an archaeological museum with ancient finds from the island and a nautical-themed museum that will teach you all about the island’s history as a world-renowned centre for traditional sponge harvesting. The ruins of a medieval castle built by the famous Knights of Saint John look out over it all, offering panoramic views to those who make the short climb. For fun in the sun, head to any of the small sand-and-pebble bays scattered around the town, or pick up a boat trip from the port to seek out quieter coves, empty islands and swim in the crystal-clear sea. You could even make a day trip on the ferry to Kos, and explore the impressive archaeological ruins of Hippocrates’ island.
Five-star booking service? You bet.
