Discover the unique charms of the three Baltic capital cities, with city tours, breakfast, flights and intercity transfers
This enigmatic chain of three distinctive countries are bound by a fascinating and chequered history, a shared coastline, and the fervent desire to carve a modern identity while celebrating age-old traditions and culture. On this border-hopping crusade, you'll fall in love with Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia and their three capitals: Vilnius a city of Baroque splendour, Riga swept by graceful Art Nouveau, and Tallinn, a labyrinthine sprawl of medieval charms. Add to this three different languages, three wholly different sets of traditions and customs, and a unifying magnetism that will enchant any traveller.
Starting in Vilnius, you’ll get to know the UNESCO heritage Old Town on a guided walking tour and have the chance to discover beautiful Trakai afterwards (chargeable), where the red brick castle stands as a lone outpost on the stunning Lake Galve. It's then time to travel to Riga in Latvia, stopping at the Baltic version of Versailles – Rundale Palace – on the way.
Waking up in Riga the next morning, you'll get to grips with the biggest of the Baltic capitals. Discover Gothic, Baroque and Art Nouveau architecture, alonsgide a host of great restaurants, bars and shops to try out. While here, there's also the opportunity (chargeable) to check out the Baltic resort of Jurmala – a charming spa town with regal Art Nouveau splendour – plus Gauja National Park and the town of Sigulda.
Lastly, you'll head to the Estonian capital, Tallinn. En route you’ll be introduced to Estonian culture with a short stop at the charming coastal town of Parnu. Waking up in Tallinn, you’ll be immersed in its medieval sprawl, often dubbed a museum city for the startling condition of its age-old buildings. While here, there's also the choice (chargeable) to see Kadriorg Park and visit the KUMU, the new award-winning Estonian Art Museum. Good to know
