A peaceful stay in an elegant heritage hotel in the upscale resort town of Opatija, close to the beach – includes breakfast, dinner, daily spa access and more.
  • Refreshed refinement: Fresh from a 2018 facelift is the Liburnia Heritage Hotel Imperial Opatija, located in a historic building originally named after the Belgian-Austrian crown princess Stephanie. Since its opening in 1885 the hotel has seen numerous incarnations, with glamorous bedrooms, a sumptuous spa and an elegant restaurant.

  • Local dining: The large restaurant is decked out in genteel glamour, with soft greys and atmospheric lighting. Buffets have a Mediterranean leaning, and locally inspired dinners typical of the Kvarner region are served on Mondays. There are also special Mediterranean-themed evenings on Thursdays - both include live music.

  • Indulge the days away: The pampering spa zone includes a Finnish sauna, hammam, hydromassage showers and an ice fountain. Location and what's nearby

static map

Ulica Marsala Tita 198, Opatija 51410, Croatia

Opatija’s not your standard Croatian resort, resembling more of a Paris-on-Sea rather than the sun-baked limestone towns further along the coast. During the heyday of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, the little seaside resort was the go-to destination for the elite, which explains the grand Belle Époque mansions lining the streets. These days, it still draws a glamorous crowd of holidaymakers and day-trippers to its spa hotels and lovely stretch of unspoilt coastline.

When you’re not chilling out on the nearby beach, take a good lungful of fresh coastal air with a walk along the Lungomare seafront promenade, don your comfiest shoes for a hike up Mount Učka, or head further along the coast for a dip in one of the sheltered hidden bays. Evenings can be spent getting to know Opatija’s excellent harbour restaurants, where you’ll discover why this smart town is known as the ‘pearl of the Adriatic'.
