Location and what's nearby

Diune Hotel, Sułkowskiego 4 A-C, 78-100 Kołobrzeg, Poland

Complete with all the trappings of an olde-worlde beach resort, Poland’s seaside city of Kołobrzeg (pronounced ko-wob-zhek) is perfect for those who want to make the most of the lovely Baltic coastline. Not only is it where mostly Poles come to holiday (great if you don’t fancy sharing sand space with the masses), but it also tempts with historic architecture, a concrete pier, and a promenade filled with ice cream shops, beer gardens, and souvenir stands.

Highlights here include strolling around the Old Town (much of which was destroyed in WWII), marvelling at the 14th-century cathedral, and climbing the lighthouse for superb city views. Equally visit-worthy is the Polish Arms Museum for its interesting weaponry, the 19th-century Town Hall for its modern art gallery, and the public pier that reaches 100 metres into the sea.
