How can we help?
We're usually great at keeping secrets, but we've laid out all the answers here. Search below or browse our categories to get sorted in a flash.

What’s included with my car hire, and what insurance do I get?
Every rental includes unlimited mileage, Collision Damage Waiver (CDW), Theft Protection (TP) and Third-Party Liability (TPL), plus local surcharges and airport fees. Each cover carries an excess you’re responsible for. Not included: personal accident insurance, fuel, extras like child seats or GPS, and additional drivers.
Extra insurance (added during booking) covers the damage and theft excess you pay, repairs, immobilisation, towing and lockout costs — you’re usually charged the excess by the local company and then claim it back from Rental Cars. It doesn’t cover personal belongings, other out-of-pocket costs, interior damage, third-party claims, or damage caused while breaching the rental agreement.
What do I need to pick up my hire car (card, deposit, excess, documents)?
At pickup the local supplier blocks a deposit on the main driver’s credit card as a guarantee; the amount varies by booking and is shown in your rental terms and on your voucher. The excess is what you’d pay in case of damage or theft (sometimes the same as the deposit), also on your voucher.
You’ll need: a credit card in the main driver’s name with enough funds for the deposit/excess (cash and debit cards are almost never accepted; Mastercard and Visa are generally fine), a valid passport/ID and driver’s licence for all drivers, and your printed voucher.
Fuel policy, adding insurance later, and finding your car documents
Fuel policy: standard is like-for-like (return it with the same fuel level). You can usually upgrade to pre-purchase at pickup for a fee, but there’s no refund for unused fuel.
Adding insurance later: extra insurance can’t be added after booking. The local supplier may offer cover at pickup, but anything you sign for there is your responsibility and isn’t reimbursable.
Your documents and supplier: all car rental documentation is in your Trip Overview. The broker is who we book through (e.g. Rental Cars); the local supplier is who you collect from (e.g. Hertz, Avis), listed during booking and on your voucher.
I’m having a problem with my hire car
Wrong vehicle: don’t accept it without first calling Rental Cars’ 24/7 team (number on your voucher); don’t agree to pay for an upgrade first.
Damage dispute: refer to photos from pickup, or the signed rental agreement and damage record, and contact Rental Cars for support (Flexible Holidays can also email claims@rentalcover.com).
No vehicle available at pickup: call Rental Cars’ 24/7 emergency line immediately rather than booking an alternative yourself.
Always photograph the car from all angles before driving away and make sure existing damage is noted on the signed agreement.
