It may not get as much attention as the Amalfi Coast or even its French counterpart, but the Italian Riviera – a picturesque stretch of rocky Mediterranean shoreline along northern Italy's Ligurian coast – provides an equally dreamy setting for a chic European escape. Hotel Byron sits in Lerici, a town on the beautiful Gulf of La Spezia, also known as the Gulf of Poets thanks to the many famous wordsmiths who found inspiration along these scenic shores (such as the one who gave the hotel its name). Dozens of beaches are dotted around the gulf, including the small and sandy Lido di Lerici which is right on your doorstep, and offers a great view of Castello di Lerici, the 13th-century fortress that looks out over the port.
