Stay in the heart of trulli country at a beautifully restored 19th-century masseria in Puglia’s Valle d’Itria - includes breakfast plus spa and dining discounts

Martina Franca is perfectly Puglian: a network of narrow, winding alleyways, Baroque palaces, elegant Rococo buildings and sun-splashed piazzas where street markets sell colourful vegetables and all manner of hams, cheeses and oils. It’s known as the ‘capital’ of the Valle d’Itria – trulli country – a region of limestone cliffs, deep ravines, plunging streams and rolling green hills where almonds and olives grow.

One of the best ways to experience the charms of the valley is to stay at a converted masseria like Villa San Martino. This elegant 19th-century farmhouse has been restored using only original materials and is stuffed to the rafters with antiques and furniture made by skilled local artisans. Bedrooms are draped in fine silks, the restaurant serves classic Puglian dishes and the peaches-and-cream exterior looks pretty from your position by the pool.

Located on the outskirts of Martina Franca the hotel is a great base for exploring the region, with the UNESCO-listed trulli of Alberobello a short drive away and the groves and gardens of the surrounding valley ideal for afternoon strolls. Hire a car and visit olive oil museums, medieval towns and even the coast, or just relax with a spa treatment or read a book by the pool.

Good to know

Please note that in the months of April and October, the spa is only open on the weekend. Please also note that the hotel's shuttle service to and from the airport with incur an additional cost.
