A thrilling 15-night, equator-crossing trip traversing Kenya and Uganda, with a Masai Mara safari, gorilla and chimp treks, and a rhino sanctuary visit – includes travel and more

From the wildlife-rich savannahs of the Masai Mara to the majestic mountain gorillas of Uganda, this once-in-a-lifetime getaway follows in the footsteps of East Africa’s iconic creatures. Spanning 15 nights and 11 resort stays, this equator-crossing trip traverses the best of Kenya and Uganda, weaving a rich tapestry of stunning scenery, awesome creatures and diverse cultures.

After an overnight stay in Nairobi, you’ll head to the acacia-peppered plains of Masai Mara National Park, the stomping ground of large prides of lion, along with elephants, rhinos, giraffes and zebras. Grab your camera for your all-day game drive in the hopes of nailing that Instagram-gold snap: a leopard lazing in the shade of a tree, cheetahs slinking through the grasslands or the telltale ear tips of hippos wallowing in the Mara River.

And that’s just the start of your wildlife adventures: you’ll also marvel at a flamboyance of flamingos at Lake Nakuru, spot chimpanzees in Budongo Forest (home to the largest population in Uganda) and marvel at the conservation work by Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, before heading to Lake Bunyonyi – a handy launch pad for gorilla trekking.

Here, you’ll set off in search of a much-coveted encounter with a critically endangered mountain gorilla – of which only 650 are said to remain worldwide. This magical experience of spotting these animals in their misty habitat is not only a bucket-list-worthy experience, but also one that supports local communities in their conservation efforts.

Good to know

Please note that permits for gorilla trekking are extremely limited and their range encompasses Uganda, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). Whenever possible you will visit the national park in Uganda, though should there be no availability in Uganda, then you will be informed beforehand that the tour will travel to Rwanda or the DRC.

Please note that your outbound flight is overnight, so bear this in mind when planning the time you'll be away for. The date you select as your check-in date will be the day you'll fly out from the UK and you'll arrive in Nairobi the following day to commence your 15-night holiday. Therefore, you'll be away for a total of 16 nights.

Please be aware that while the accommodations are fairly basic (with shared bathrooms in some), the tour is more about the experiences. Please also note that the tour involves walking on uneven ground and some uphill terrain.
