Day 1: UK – Bandaranaike International Airport - Dambulla
Touch down into Bandaranaike International Airport today and hop aboard your transfer to Dambulla, famous for being the home of the iconic Sigiriya Rock Fortress. Upon arrival, check-in to the beautiful Sigiriana Resort by Thilanka and spend the rest of the day at leisure. (Meals: half-board basis)
Day 2: Dambulla – Sigiriya Rock – Minneriya National Park – Dambulla
Rising dramatically from the central plains of Sri Lanka, the ancient rock fortress of Sigiriya is one of the country’s most enigmatic attractions. You’ll get to explore this 600-foot-high rock fortress on a guided tour, then will head to Minneriya National Park for an evening game drive. This is one of the best places in the whole of Asia to spot wild elephants, and during the dry season, there can be over 350 individuals surrounding the central Minneriya Tank. Other species to spot here include water buffalo, sambar deer and peacocks. (Meals: half-board basis)
Day 3: Dambulla – Dambulla Dedicated Economical Centre – Dambulla Cave Temples – Dambulla
After an early morning breakfast, visit the Dambulla Dedicated Economical Centre, a wholesale market selling large quantities of vegetables, fruits, fresh fish and more. Afterwards, enjoy the rest of the day at leisure, then pay a visit to the Dambulla Cave Temples, a UNESCO World Heritage Site consisting of a complex of caves, decked out in some of the country’s most evocative art. (Meals: half-board basis)
Day 4: Dambulla – Matale - Kandy
After a leisurely breakfast, head towards the city of Kandy, stopping along the way at Matale Spice Gardens for a guided tour. Then, check-in to the Hotel Topaz. (Meals: half-board basis)
Day 5: Kandy
Spend the morning at leisure, or opt to visit the Peradeniya Botanical Gardens (additional charge; please call to arrange). In the last afternoon, explore Kandy on a city tour, which will include a visit to the Temple of The Sacred Tooth Relic, Sri Lanka’s most important Buddhist shrine showcasing the tooth of the Buddha. (Meals: half-board basis)
Day 6: Kandy - Nuwara Eliya
After breakfast, set off towards Nuwara Eliya. The area is known for its tea plantations, and you’ll get the chance to see how tea is picked, rolled, withered and processed with a visit to a local tea factory. Upon arrival in the city, you’ll be driven around to see the sights. (Meals: half-board basis)
Day 7: Nuwara Eliya
This morning you’ll visit a strawberry farm, then spend the rest of the day exploring at your leisure. Why not opt to visit Victoria Park to relax, a lovely green space full of flowers, perfect for an afternoon walk (additional charge; please call to arrange). (Meals: half-board basis)
Day 8: Nuwara Eliya - Kalutara
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast, then hop in the car to drive to Kalutara for a blissful beach stay. (Meals: all-inclusive basis)
Days 9 - 12: Kalutara
Spend the next four days at leisure and make the most of beach lounging. Top up the tan by the beach or the pool, wind down with a massage or eat and drink to your heart’s content. If you’re looking to do something out of the resort, enjoy a bird watching trip down the Madu Ganga river or pay a visit to the Kosgoda Turtle Conservation Project, a dedicated conservation project designed to help the resident species of turtles in Sri Lanka. Day 13: Kalutara – Bandaranaike International Airport – UK
Drive the two hours or so back to the airport, and check-in for your flight back to the UK.
