Day 1: UK – Bandaranaike International Airport - Dambulla

Touch down in Sri Lanka today and hop aboard your transfer to Dambulla, famous for being the home of the iconic Sigiriya Rock Fortress. Check into the beautiful Sigiriana Resort by Thilanka and spend the rest of the day at leisure. (Meals: half-board)

Day 2: Dambulla - Sigiriya Rock Fortress - Dambulla

You'll drive to Dambulla to visit its buzzing Dedicated Economic Centre, where hundreds of wholesalers and buyers gather each morning to bargain, purchase large quantities of fruit, fish and more. Relax before your evening climb to the top of Sigiriya - the mighty 600-foot-high rock built by a 5th-century king and featuring beautiful frescoes. (Meals: half-board)

Day 3: Dambulla - Dambulla Cave Temples - Kandy

On the way to Kandy, you'll stop at Dambulla Cave Temples, a UNESCO World Heritage Site cave complex, decked out in some of the country’s most evocative art. You'll also stop at Matale Spice Gardens, where a guide will show you various types of herbs and plants. Here, there's an optional cooking demo with lunch (US$13 per person). On arrival in Kandy, check into your hotel and spend the rest of the day as you please. (Meals: half-board)

Day 4: Kandy

Spend the morning at leisure, perhaps choosing a cookery class (US$20 per person), a Mahaweli River Boat Safari (US$35 per person), or opting to visit the Peradeniya Botanical Gardens (US$11 per person). In the evening, explore Kandy on a city tour, including a visit to the Temple of The Sacred Tooth Relic, Sri Lanka’s most important Buddhist shrine showcasing the tooth of the Buddha. (Meals: half-board)

Day 5: Kandy - Nuwara Eliya

After breakfast, set off towards Nuwara Eliya, pausing near Ramboda Falls to take some pictures. The area is known for its tea plantations, and you’ll get the chance to see how tea is picked, rolled, and processed with a visit to a local tea factory. Upon arrival in the city, drive around to see the sights. (Meals: half-board)

Day 6: Nuwara Eliya - Tissamaharama

Today you'll travel southeast to Tissamaharama, close to Yala National Park, En route, you'll go on a short tour of Ella and pause for photos at the gushing white Ravana Ella waterfall. On arrival in Tissamaharama, check into your hotel. In the evening, you can choose to visit Kataragama Dewalaya (a Hindu shrine) and Kirivehera Buddhist Temple (no surcharge for either). At the shrine, Hindus, Buddhists and believers of other faiths line up to smash coconuts when making wishes to the gods. (Meals: half-board)

Day 7: Tissamaharama - Yala National Park - Galle Fort - Kalutara

It's time for a bright and early pick-up (with packed breakfast) for game drives around Yala National Park. Yala is famous for its big herds and numerous elephants, leopards, spotted deer, sambar, crocodiles, mongoose, wild boar, wild buffalo, and myriad other animals. After this thrilling wildlife experience, you will be driven to your Kalutara beach hotel, stopping at UNESCO-protected Galle Fort en route for a walking tour. This is where the Portuguese first landed in Sri Lanka in 1505. On arrival at Kalutara, check into your beach hotel and spend the rest of your day at leisure. (Meals: all-inclusive basis)

Days 8-9: Kalutara

Spend the next couple of days at leisure and make the most of beach lounging. Top up the tan by the beach or curvaceous pool, wind down with a massage and hog the Jacuzzi. (Meals: all-inclusive basis)

Day 10: Kalutara - Colombo - UK

Today you'll say farewell to mesmerising Sri Lanka and transfer to Colombo’s international airport for the flight back to the UK.

What is a deposit?

In short, you pay Secret Escapes a non-refundable deposit to secure your holiday, then you pay the holiday supplier the remaining balance of the holiday - as advertised - at a later date (before you travel).

We've added deposit-only sales to enable our members to get early-bird access to more amazing holidays, and because we know that planning and paying for a holiday can take time.
