A former earl's manor house and coaching inn with Grade II-listed status and cosy up-to-date decor in Welshpool – includes full Welsh breakfast
Enjoy a visit to The Royal Oak and you’ll be following in the footsteps of Her Majesty the Queen herself, who enjoyed a spot of lunch here when she visited Welshpool in 2010. As the former manor house of the Earl of Powis, before the hotel became an important coaching inn in 1927, she’s not the only VIP to have passed through these historic doors. Join the impressive roster and you’ll find a Grade II-listed design that dates back to the 18th century, plus plenty of modern charm.
As you’d expect of a former coaching inn, the hotel sits on the town’s main route and provides easy access to the Severn Valley and beyond. It also takes its hospitality seriously, serving up locally sourced ingredients and hand-pulled beers and ales by a working fireplace. A patisserie cabinet that’s filled daily with freshly baked goods and guestrooms offering Sky TV and Wi-Fi are some of the contemporary updates here too. The Royal Oak trumpets a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence.
Good to know
Due to the building’s listed status, the hotel does not have a lift. Many rooms also require stair access.
