A classic honey-stone Georgian hotel with superbly stylish interiors in central Bath – includes breakfast and restaurant discount

Famous for its Roman heritage, UNESCO-listed buildings and remarkable literary heritage, there are few cities in Britain as beautiful as Bath. Set among four majestic honey-hued townhouses in centre of this historic city, the elegant and slightly eccentric Queensberry Hotel retains every inch of its original Georgian grandeur, where stylish interiors are marked by handsome antique furnishings and gorgeous decorative touches.

Coupled with a playful atmosphere brought about by the in-house rulebook (indoor horse riding and Woody Woodpecker laughs are banned, you’ll be pleased to note), this husband-and-wife-run residence boasts a unique edge that sets it a cut above the competition. Situated just a stone’s throw from icons like the Royal Crescent and the Circus, it boasts one of the most atmospheric locations in the city, and is within easy walking distance of all the highlights.

Upon your return, you can indulge in some of the finest food Bath has to offer at the critically acclaimed Olive Tree Restaurant, that sports three AA Rosettes. The brainchild of Chris Cleghorn (once a student of foodie pioneer Heston Blumenthal), this fine-dining eatery serves up sensational dishes, all created using local produce, in effortlessly stylish surroundings. Don’t miss out on a drink in the wonderfully quirky Old Q Bar as well. All in all, it’s easy to see why this place has earned itself a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence.

Dining

Not only will you wake up to a full English, but you’ll also have the option to dine at the award-winning Olive Tree Restaurant, nestled in the basement of the hotel. One of Bath’s longest-established independent eateries, it holds three AA Rosettes for its inventive menu, which uses produce sourced from the surrounding countryside to create artistically plated, seasonal dishes that taste as good as they look. Although it’s headed up by Chris Cleghorn, the protege of three Michelin-starred chefs, the ambience is understated and unpretentious, which only adds to the appeal.

For a post-dinner drink, head to the laid-back Old Q Bar, a classy, welcoming lounge that oozes style and sophistication. Grab an armchair by the roaring fire or prop up the chrome-plated bar and enjoy one of the many cocktails rustled up by the knowledgeable bar staff.

Location

The Queensberry Hotel enjoys a superb location in the centre of Bath on a peaceful, typically Georgian residential street, a mere 200 metres from resplendent architectural landmarks like the Circus and Royal Crescent. You’re within easy walking distance of all the city sights, including the vast Roman Baths complex and Pump Room, the delightful Jane Austen Centre and the majestic Bath Abbey, all reached within 15 minutes. The shops and restaurants of Southgate Street are a
short walk away, although you’ll find many more as you explore the city’s cobbled streets. Bath Spa railway station is a 20-minute walk from the hotel.
