A charming 18th-century coaching inn within beautiful Carmarthenshire, in west Wales - includes breakfast and optional two-course dinner

Upon arrival in West Wales’ Carmarthenshire market town of Llandeilo, you’ll find a striking, postbox-red bolthole nestled among the multicoloured tumble of buildings. This former coaching inn is The Cawdor, a boutique hotel with traditional Georgian charm, excellent food in a refined dining room, a sumptuous bar with a cosy vibe and a clutch of chic, modern bedrooms. TripAdvisor agrees, awarding the hotel a Certificate of Excellence.

Following a recent refurb, The Cawdor offers guests a homely base, with a handful of squishy sofas dotted around its restaurant and lounge bar – try to nab the much-coveted spot next to the fireplace. Fresh local and seasonal produce, such as succulent Welsh lamb from a nearby farm, gets the attention it deserves on the menu here. Elsewhere, there's a decadent afternoon tea – freshly baked scones slathered in clotted cream are just the ticket after a day rambling around the stunning countryside. Endlessly long sandy beaches, peaceful forests, crumbling medieval castles and rugged mountains – we defy you not to fall in love with Carmarthenshire’s spectacular scenery.
