Day 1: Colombo

Arrive in Sri Lanka and transfer to your first hotel.

Distance from Bandaranaike International airport: 30km

Day 2: Dambulla

Today you’ll have the option of a Jeep safari in one of the nearby national parks, where in addition to the Asiatic elephant, you might spot water buffalo, jackals, the elusive leopard, exotic birdlife and more. But first, you'll try your hand at Sri Lankan cooking before breakfast at the hotel.

Distance from Colombo: 180km

Day 3: Dambulla

Visit the dramatic UNESCO World Heritage site Sigiriya Rock, then enjoy an authentic Hiriwadunna village experience, including a trek and cooking demonstration using vegetables you purchase at the market. You’ll take a scenic catamaran ride across the lake to meet a local family.

Day 4: Kandy

It’s onwards to Kandy today; en-route you’ll visit a historical Ayurvedic village, known for its spices, and attend a cookery demonstration of two traditional Sri Lankan sweet treats. In Kandy, discover the Sacred Temple of the Tooth, considered to be the holiest place in the world for many Buddhists.

Distance from Dambulla: 100km

Day 5: Kandy - Nuwara Eliya

Take a fascinating tour of Kandy’s cultural hotspots and picturesque streets, ending at a local arts and crafts hotspot, before you make your way to Nuwara Eliya. After a spectacularly scenic train journey through lush landscapes, visit a tea plantation and factory, following the humble tea leaf’s journey to the cup. You’ll even get the opportunity to try your hand at tea-picking.

Distance from Kandy: 90km

Day 6: Nuwara Eliya - Udawalawe

In association with the Born Free Foundation, the Department of Wildlife Conservation has set up the Elephant Transit Home, a facility designed to rehabilitate orphaned baby elephants with an aim to ultimately release them back into their natural habitat. Pay a visit to the sanctuary and later, head out on a Jeep safari in spectacular Udawalawe National Park.

Distance from Nuwara Eliya: 120km

Days 7-11/7-14: Udawalawe - Kalutara

Before you make tracks for the idyllic shores of Kalutara, stop at fascinating Galle Fort, Sri Lanka’s southernmost point. Relax at a beach resort for the rest of your holiday.
