An amazing tour of Sri Lanka, taking in UNESCO World Heritage sites, a thrilling national park safari and a blissful beach stay – includes travel and excursions

Sri Lanka is a country strewn with cultural jewels and natural treasures. Its impressive landscapes host lush tropical forests, expansive dazzling lakes and magnificent mountain ranges. All this is scattered with captivating temples and ancient monuments, yet it remains largely untrodden by the typical tourist. With this nine-night tour, you can discover Sri Lanka’s best bits, with the unique advantage of your very own English-speaking chauffeur.

You’ll kick it all off in Dambulla, staying at Amaya Lake for two nights. During your stay, marvel at the impressive Sigiriya Rock Fortress with a climb up to its summit, as well as gaze in awe at the archaeological treasures of ancient Polonnaruwa. Next, it's onto the UNESCO World Heritage City of Kandy in central Sri Lanka, famed for its sacred Buddhist sites. Here, you'll visit the mystical Dambulla Cave Temple and Sacred Temple of the Tooth Relic – home to a tooth relic that belonged to Buddha himself.

A scenic overnight stay at The Blackpool Hotel in Nuwara Eliya is next up on your agenda. Dubbed the 'Little England of Sri Lanka', you’ll be staying amidst the luscious tea country, surrounded by rolling picturesque views. You’ll even get to sample some of the produce with a visit to a tea plantation and factory.

You'll then head to Tissamaharama, with a two-night stay at the waterfront retreat of The Safari hotel. Here, you can really get to grips with Sri Lanka's wildlife, with a 4x4 Jeep safari through Yala National Park, where you'll be in with a chance of spotting elephants, leopards and lions. The ancient Sithulpawwa Rock Temple is nearby too, along with the shrines of Kataragama and Kiri Vehera.

Last but not least, it’s time to slip down a few gears with five nights of beach bliss on Sri Lanka’s sandy shores in Bentota, at a dreamy beachside resort and spa. Here, you can relax amidst the resort’s top-notch facilities, which include a decadent spa and a handful of inviting dining options. If you can tear yourself away from the resort, you’re just 15 minutes from the Sea Turtle Hatchery.
