A Grade II listed, 17th-century Windsor hotel, featuring wellness facilities and a river-facing restaurant with terrace - includes spa access and optional dinner allowance

With its pretty shopping lanes unravelling from the castle at the top of the hill, Windsor is one of Britain's loveliest towns. This four-star hotel comprises several characterful buildings, which are clustered around a historic cobbled street by Eton Bridge. Step inside to discover a collection of individually-styled bedrooms, a brasserie-style restaurant with terrace and lovely river views, and the Wren's Club - featuring a gym, spa treatments, outdoor Jacuzzi and sauna.

Sir Christopher Wren's reception is located in the Thames House building, and the hotel is just a short walk from the high street, the area's famous green parks and the castle itself. Dating back to the 17th century, this Grade II listed building exudes English heritage and houses sympathetically restored interiors. Many of the original features have been retained, creating a stately backdrop for tasteful boutique furnishings. This hotel was awarded a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence.

The Brasserie at Sir Christopher Wren features spectacular river views, a brasserie-style menu, an international wine list and a stunning outdoor terrace (open daily from 10am-10pm, good weather depending). With a peaceful riverside setting, many of the dishes are locally inspired (Eton Mess is a menu staple) and range from small places to chef's specials. The terrace provides a great al fresco space for coffee or a light bite, as well as afternoon tea (think sultana scones, freshly-made smoked salmon sandwiches, cakes and a choice of either chilled prosecco or Pimm's).

Wren's Club is set over three floors, with most of the space dedicated to fitness. There's also a dry spa area equipped with a sauna and relaxation room, plus a Jacuzzi spa bath outside. The spa offers a Decléor face and body treatment menu, alongside a number of bespoke therapies.

Sir Christopher Wren enjoys a prime location by the river, just a stone's throw from Windsor and Eton Riverside station. A stroll up the hill will take you into the beautiful town centre, revealing the castle on the left and an upscale parade of shops and restaurants on the right. Windsor Great Park and Alexandra Park are not far from here and there are a number of championship golf courses in the area (this region is famed for its excellent golf clubs).

How do I get there?

If you’re bringing a car, drive to the hotel’s main entrance on Thames Street and drop your luggage with the hotel's porters before parking. Very limited on-site valet parking is available, and there is a charge of £25 per car, per night. If you are a blue badge holder, let the hotel know at the time of booking and they will provide you with a complimentary car parking space.
