Day 1: UK - Colombo
Spend a night onboard your flight to Sri Lanka before landing in the capital, Colombo. Transfer to your hotel and settle in. (Meals: dinner)
Day 2: Colombo
Today, your adventure begins with a city tour of Colombo. You’ll wander the different neighbourhoods, visit the Folk Art Centre, Independence Square and more, then spend some time at leisure before heading back out for a street food walking tour. Eat your way through the city with your guide, savouring a mix of Muslim, Malay and Tamil cuisine while laying eyes on some more iconic sites. (Meals: breakfast, dinner)
Day 3: Colombo - Kandy
After breakfast, leave the hotel to drive to Kandy, taking a city tour on arrival. This hilly city has scenic written all over it, and you’ll continue on to the famous Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, before visiting the International Buddhism Museum. (Meals: breakfast, dinner)
Day 4: Kandy
Explore the natural side to Kandy this morning at Udawatte Kele Sanctuary, where you’ll take a hike through the verdant forest. Visit the Ceylon Tea Museum and the Blue Temple (also known as Lankatilaka Raja Maha Vihara), and Gadaladeniya Rajamaha Viharaya, an ancient monastery and the Embekke Devalaya shrine, famous for its wood carvings. (Meals: breakfast, dinner)
Day 5: Kandy - Nuwara Eliya
Set off for Nuwara Eliya this morning, once a British summer retreat. The drive here is one of the most scenic routes in the world, passing mountains, tea plantations, waterfalls and more. En route, visit a tea plantation and factory, following the humble tea leaf’s journey to the cup. On arrival in Nuwara Eliya, drive around the city before heading to your hotel. (Meals: breakfast, dinner)
Day 6: Nuwara Eliya - Ella - Tissamaharama
This morning, drive to Nanu Oya station, to board one of the most breathtaking train journeys in the world. Pass through the stunning landscapes en route to Ella, then continue to your hotel near Yala National Park. Please note that train tickets are generally available for purchase approximately 21 days before travel; these will be booked for you through the Department of Railways Sri Lanka as soon as the booking window is open. If the train journey cannot be booked, you will be driven to Ella and Yala National Park. (Meals: breakfast, dinner)
Day 7: Tissamaharama - Yala National Park - Tissamaharama
Spend the morning on a Jeep safari in Yala National Park - home to elephants, bears, leopards and much more wonderful wildlife. Drive back to the hotel for a late breakfast, then spend the rest of your day at leisure. (Meals: breakfast, dinner)
Day 8: Tissamaharama - Kalutara
After breakfast, drive further south for your all-inclusive beach stay in Kalutara. Stop en route to visit Galle, an ancient harbour town. In the afternoon, check in to your beach resort. (Meals: all-inclusive)
Days 9 & 10: Kalutara
Spend your days at leisure on Kalutara’s palm-fringed beaches. (Meals: all-inclusive)
Day 11: Kalutara - Colombo
Transfer back to the airport for your flight back to the UK. (Meals: breakfast)
