Delve into the stunning surrounds and age-old cultural heights of China’s southern Yunnan Province - includes breakfast, monastery and temple visits, and travel

Day 1: UK - Kunming

Venture to your UK departure airport for a flight to Kunming, the capital of China’s Yunnan Province, spending a night on board before you arrive.

Day 2: Kunming

Touch down in Kunming - this city combines the leafy greenery its southern surrounds with classic Chinese futurism - think skyscrapers and expansive parks with historic sights thrown in for good measure.

Day 3: Kunming

Start your first full day in Kunming with a guided tour. You’ll visit the Yuantong Temple, then explore Green Lake Park, just one of the city’s many green lungs, before travelling to the West Hills to visit more temples. In the evening, opt to explore on your own or go and experience a Yunnan Show; an immersive performance of ethnic dances and music (£47 per person). (Meals: breakfast)

Day 4: Kunming - Dali

After breakfast, set off to the iconic Stone Forest, where incredible karsts take the shape of trees. Return after exploring to take the highspeed train to Dali, which dates back to the Ming dynasty. (Meals: breakfast)

Day 5: Dali

Spend today exploring Dali at your own pace - relics of ancient dynasties, from towering pagodas to temples sit pretty in the streets. Alternatively, you can opt to embark on a day tour to really delve into this fascinating city (£160 per person). (Meals: breakfast)

Day 6: Dali - Shangri-La

Today you’ll start with a visit to the Three Pagodas of Chongsheng. These 1,800-year-old pagodas are some of the city’s most beautiful. Next, visit Shaxi Ancient Town, once a stop on the Tea Horse Road, then move on to Shangri-La, nestled between snow-capped mountains. (Meals: breakfast)

Day 7: Shangri-La

A mysterious and many-fabled city perched between mountains and wide valleys, Shangri-La looks like something out of a movie. Spend your morning exploring Songzanlin Monastery, then enjoy lunch with a local Tibetan family. Opt to embark on an excursion to the Potatso National Park (£77 per person), or wander the streets of Shangri-La at your own pace. (Meals: breakfast, lunch)

Day 8: Shangri-La

Spend a day at leisure in Shangri-La, or venture to the Dongzhulin Monastery on an optional excursion which will take you to the Jinsha River too (£175 per person, including lunch). (Meals: breakfast)

Day 9: Shangri-La - Lijiang

Today you’ll move on to Lijiang, visiting Leaping Tiger Gorge en route. On arrival in Lijiang, enjoy a tour of the Old Town’s cobblestone streets, then spend the rest of the day exploring at leisure. (Meals: breakfast)

Day 10: Lijiang

Enjoy another day at leisure in Lijiang, soaking up the scenery and enjoying local delicacies, or opt for a full-day tour (£185 per person), which will take you to visit Jade Dragon Mountain, Baisha Village and Yufeng Peak. In the evening, opt for a Mountain and River show (£47 per person). (Meals: breakfast)

Day 11: Lijiang - Kunming

After breakfast, visit Shube Ancient Town, a traditional example of a Tea Horse Route town, then explore the Zhiyun Temple before taking the fast train back to Kunming. (Meals: breakfast)

Day 12: Kunming

Enjoy your final few hours in China before transferring back to the airport for your flight home. (Meals: breakfast)
