Mottram Hall certainly has a bit of a regal ring to it, and this glorious Grade II listed building in the Cheshire countryside suits its majestic moniker. A grand country house set amongst 270 acres of gorgeous grounds, it's been transformed into a superb modern spa hotel that pays impressive homage to its 18th-century home.
The beautifully furnished guest rooms offer contemporary comfort to complement the classic yet stylish feel, with plenty of luxurious extras – think elegant Egyptian cotton bedding and duck feather and downs duvets, which gives a pretty good indication of just how seriously they take comfort here.

The AA Rosette-awarded Carrington Grill has foodie tongues wagging, with a seriously elegant dining room showcasing a mouthwatering menu with a selection of classic English dishes with a modern European twist, rich with the superb local, seasonal produce. The wine list is a strong-point, as is the incredible steak from the grill. The afternoon tea and superb Sunday roasts go down a storm too.
Elsewhere, the swish Claret Jug bar and brasserie is a sophisticated spot to enjoy a drink and local dishes – pull up a pew and gaze out across the 9th green, with the hotel’s landscaped parkland and ornamental lake adding to the scenic backdrop.
As its name suggests, the plush velvet-clad Champagne Bar is the perfect place to enjoy a glass (or few) of fizz, as well as a selection of champagne-infused cocktails.
First things first, the outdoor treatments at the Alfresco ThermoSpace (the UK’s first) are one of the hotel’s real draws – there’s nothing quite like a treatment or therapy (or simply a dip in the heated hydrobath) out in the open air. But that’s just the tip of one very lovely iceberg, with myriad restorative and relaxing options, from facials and massages to hot stone therapies, dry floatation experiences, and some very swanky yet innovative thermal treatments in the Brechelbath and Stonebath rooms.
