A nature-loving adventure to enticing Ecuador and Peru, taking in the stunning Galápagos Islands, Machu Picchu and much more - includes breakfast, excursions and all travel

There's no shortage of natural wonders and spectacular scenery in South America, and Ecuador holds a vivid variety. This trip takes you island-hopping between the colourful fauna of the must-see Galápagos to the party beat in urban Guayaquil, before following in the footsteps of the Inca in Ecuador's southerly neighbour, Peru. You'll see colonial wonders and archaeological gems in both Lima and Cusco, before spending a night up in the Andes and stepping on ancient sacred ground at the spine-tingling Machu Picchu.

Starting your adventure in Quito, Ecuador's capital, you'll take in the city's historic sights before sampling an exotic rainbow of fruit at a market. Fly over to the out-of-this-world Galápagos Islands to spot large tortoises, roam uninhabited isles and gawp at fantastical marine life in Darwin's stomping ground. Spend a night in the buzzy port city of Guayaquil before diving into Peru.

Unfurling from the craggy cliff-flanked coastline, Lima is glorious in all its chaotic charm, where modern high-rises rub shoulders with pre-Columbian temples and candy-coloured colonial gems. During your stay, visit the city’s clutch of art-rich galleries and insightful museums, before feasting on plates of ceviche washed down with punchy pisco sours – just save room for the silk-smooth Amazonian chocolate that you can learn more about on a visit to the Chocolate Museum.

It's then time to explore the once capital of the Incan Empire that's bejewelled with colonial architecture - Cusco. After getting to grips with the gargantuan history behind this city, you'll have the joy of exploring the Sacred Valley at your own pace, snapping some selfies with the area's hairy inhabitants at a llama farm on the way. Dotted with age-old ruins, your visit to the hangout of the Incas is enhanced with a night in an 18th-century monastery among the hills.

Afterwards, you’ll hop aboard a train towards your next marvellous destination: the awe-inspiring Machu Picchu. On a guided tour, you can marvel at the mysterious ruins of the 550-year-old Inca citadel presiding proudly over the Sacred Valley, against a dramatic backdrop of forest-cloaked Andes Mountains. After another night in Cusco, you'll fly back to Lima and onwards to the UK, with a treasure chest of colourful memories.
