Through the keyhole: Salthouse Harbour Hotel

The last few months has and continues to impact us all in a deeply personal way. While we know for many of you, travel might not be at the forefront of your mind right now, we wanted to work with our hotel partners to reassure you that when you’re ready again, they’ll be there to welcome you back safely. We’ve reached out to some of our bestselling UK hotels to find out how the impact of COVID has affected them and their businesses, and to ask them how they will be preparing to open their doors once again. Here we chat to Filipa Goncalves, Revenue Manager at Salthouse Harbour Hotel in Suffolk.

What’s your current job role and what does that look like/involve?

I’m a Revenue Manager, and my job is to forecast and report on revenue changes and trends, to make sure the reservations system is up to date and manage our inventory and rates. Overall to strategize to ensure we achieve our goals.

Tell us about the last few months, how has your job changed?

I’ve been furloughed, but expect to have to do more than my usual job since we’ve been closed for so long we won’t have the same resources.

What is your hotel doing to prepare for the new normal?

Lots of new procedures are being put in place along with staff training.

Can you describe how your hotel has changed any of its processes to ensure customer safety?

The hotel capacity has been decreased, the check-in and check-out process will be done over the phone, to minimise contact. The PPE will obviously be a big change, as this would not normally be associated with our brand, but we have to be concerned with customer safety above everything else.

What things have the COVID crisis taught you about how people think about travel?

People are more appreciative of travel now. Up until recently, people had the freedom to go wherever and whenever they wanted anywhere in the world, as long as they had the means. I also think people are looking at staying locally and not travelling overseas, at least for the remainder of the year.

We love to inspire the world to escape, can you share with us a secret travel tip to get people dreaming about their next stay?

Always be nice and polite to your reservations agent – they can give you a lovely upgrade!

When you get the chance what’s the first holiday you will go on?

Portugal – to visit my family!

Who will you go with?

My husband and boys.

You can now book a fully refundable stay at Salthouse Harbour Hotel.
