A traditional four-star hotel in a beautiful Keswick setting, including breakfast and dinner, plus tea and scones on arrival

Few hotels can boast their own waterfall, but somewhere in its 40 acres of private land, Lodore Falls Hotel has ticked that too-often-empty box. Overlooking the beautiful Derwentwater Lake, where imposing mountain ranges are mirrored in the glassy water, this stately retreat is everything you could want from a stay in the Lake District.

Rooms here are tastefully furnished with English florals, tactile throws and plump pillows and the public areas have a warm, traditional air. The hotel's cosy lounge is characterised by an open fire, cosy armchairs and hand-picked antiques, while the Lake View restaurant serves gourmet local cuisine in an eccentric gentleman-style dining room overlooking the water.

Besides exploring the stunning National Park, the leisure options here are plentiful, with a beauty salon, hot tub, plus an all-weather tennis court. Wander out on the wooden pier and hire a sailboat or kayak for a peaceful way to absorb the scenery. When the weather's really on side, why not spend the day relaxing by the outdoor swimming pool.

Good to know

Please be aware that in order to avoid disappointment, use of the hot tub should be booked prior to arrival. Guests may book a session upon check-in, though availability may be more limited.

Please also be aware that the pool will close in the middle of October.

Rooms

Comfortable and traditional with pillowy beds, handsome drapes and soft carpets, all rooms champion classic English hospitality. Fell Side and Lake View rooms benefit from views of the mountains or the lake - a beautiful sight to open your curtains to in the morning.

Please be aware that all rooms are double rooms.

Room amenities:

- Wi-Fi access
- Sealy beds
- Gilchrist & Soames toiletries
- Bathrobes
- Hairdryer
- Flatscreen TV
- Tea and coffee-making facilities with biscuits

Dining

The restaurant serves classic gourmet cuisine using seasonal local produce. Dishes like seafood feuilleté and Lakeland beef are just what the heart desires in this green and rural setting, and the cheese board demonstrates some of the creamiest blues in the region. A vegetarian menu is available on request. Please note that a smart-casual dress code is required for the restaurant.

Spa

The location certainly inspires the urge for relaxation and wellness, which is well catered for in the hotel's full-service spa and leisure club. With an indoor swimming pool, sauna, gym, squash court and upmarket beauty salon, plus an outdoor hot tub and tennis courts, you can work out or wind down in wonderful surroundings.

Location

The Lake District National Park is the largest protected National Park in England and boasts miles of mountainous scenery, lakes and oak woodland. The hotel is located in the Borrowdale Valley, south of Derwentwater Lake, and is perfectly located for both lowland activity and hill-walking. There are a number of National Trust sites around, plus numerous olde-world pubs and country restaurants.
