A guided tour through rustic Kerala followed by a night on a houseboat, before enjoying three or six nights on soft sands in the Maldives - travel included

India is a mesmerising mix of intoxicating colours, sounds and smells, from dazzling fairy-tale Maharaja palaces and soft sandy beaches dotted with sacred sunbathing cows, to its chaotic cities pulsating with hair-raising rickshaw rides, car horns and overflowing train stations. The southwest coastal region of Kerala epitomises India's softer side with its laid-back attitude and slower pace of life. Pack in Kerala’s best bits with a guided tour, before blissing out with three or six irresistible nights at a stellar, all-inclusive Maldives retreat.

You'll kick off with two nights in charismatic Cochin, staying at the Travancore Court hotel in the city’s east. Stroll past spice warehouses, artisan's studios and hidden shrines as you explore the city. Your first night will end with a classical Indian dance show while the second day begins with a half-day sightseeing tour of the city that will take you to landmarks like the 16th-century Jewish Synagogue, the Chinese Fishing Nets and St Francis Church.

Next you'll head to Munnar, a town epitomised by endless emerald hillsides, tea plantations and picturesque landscapes - hallmarks that have earned it the title of ‘Switzerland of India’. You’ll spend two nights enjoying the region's uncharacteristically cool weather. A guided jeep safari will take you across the region's hills and valleys before bringing you to a traditional tea plantation. You'll also enjoy a picnic lunch by a nearby cliff.

The final leg of your Kerala journey sees you hop aboard a charming houseboat to spend one night upon Kerala's backwaters. You’ll spend the day cruising through narrow canals to discover lush paddy fields, picturesque villages and hidden islets.

After all that activity, it's time for some uninterrupted rest and relaxation in the Maldives. Known as the Island of White Gold due to its dazzling white sands, the lively Maldives isle of Hudhuranfushi is a true treasure. Nestled amid all this natural splendour, surrounded by emerald vegetation and crystal-clear waters, is Adaaran Select Hudhuranfushi resort. With 83 acres of tropical gardens and a subtle low-key design, it blends beautifully into its surroundings, so you'll truly feel at one with nature.
