A glamorous stay at a 17th-century coaching inn turned trendy boutique hotel in an idyllic Berkshire village - with full breakfast and dinner

Bringing a touch of glamour to Royal Berkshire’s idyllic little village of Cookham Dean, this rather plush 17th-century coaching inn has been transformed into a rural boutique bolthole with plenty for style-savvy guests to get excited about. Most impressive to many, though, is that it’s the country cousin of Sanctum Soho Hotel – London’s self-styled rock ‘n’ roll haunt jointly owned by influential nightclub impresario Mark Fuller and Iron Maiden co-manager Andy Taylor.

Each of the nine individually styled rooms and suites assures ultra-chic design and state-of-the-art comfort. Expect salubrious decor – taupe and mink hues, velvet upholstery, lavish fabrics – along with seriously comfortable beds featuring studded headboards and croc-effect pillows, plus en-suite bathrooms with designer organic toiletries and large rain showers, some with bathtubs.

Elsewhere, you’ll find a remarkably good signature restaurant for seasonal and creative British-inspired fare, a stylish bar for kicking back with artisan beer or perhaps a glass of wine from the selection of special vintages in the wine cellar. There's a lovely outdoor area with a pool and sunloungers, as well as a Moroccan-style marquee on the lawn, just in case you get the urge to throw (or join in) a rock 'n' roll style party.
