A city, desert and beach discovery tour of Jordan, from its historic capital to the Lost City of Petra, stopping at the Dead Sea, Mount Nebo and much more – includes breakfast, excursions and all travel

With its spectacularly diverse and ancient landscape, the Hashemites Kingdom of Jordan is a true land of wonder, blanketed in endless pages of history and magnificence. Venture here for an eight-day tour, exploring everything from temples and archaeological splendour, through to the Dead Sea, Lost City of Petra and dramatic Valley of the Moon.

Start your escape on the shores of the Red Sea in Aqaba, a nerve centre for watersports, set against a backdrop of rugged mountains. Inhabited since 4,000 BC, the city is now a popular beach resort with remarkable diving opportunities, including the Yamanieh coral reef in the Aqaba Marine Park. You’ll stay a short walk from a selection of soft-sand beaches and less than a 20-minute walk from the 12th-century Aqaba Fortress.

You'll then head to Amman, the country's capital and most populated city, where modernity meshes with awe-inspiring sites and a skyline of boxy sand-hued buildings. Using it as your base, you'll set off each day to explore neighbouring towns and cities, each filled with endless intrigue, from Chalcolithic remains and Byzantine churches to Roman architecture and the majestic Dead Sea.

Next up is the Lost City of Petra. One of the Seven Wonders of the World and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this bucket list-ticking city is home to Nabatean palaces and tombs, carved into rose-hued sandstones, narrow canyons and the unique temple of Al Khazneh – all of which you'll have a chance to explore, alongside the archaeological site of Little Petra and the bright orange sands, granite cliffs and mountains of the protected Wadi Rum. One of the highlights of this trip will be your last night: spent under the stars in a traditional Bedouin camp, with dinner provided.
