Discover the ancient Inca civilisation with an unmissable voyage across Peru, from Lima to Cusco, soul-stirring Machu Picchu and Lake Titicaca – travel and tours included
Soak up the 5,000-year history of the Incas with an epic adventure across Peru, from the captivating capital city and remote islands housing traditional communities to the archaeological capital of the Americas and the mighty Machu Picchu.
First stop: the cool capital of Lima. Unfurling from the craggy cliff-flanked coastline, the sprawling city is glorious in all its chaotic charm, where modern high-rises rub shoulders with pre-Columbian temples and candy-coloured architectural gems. During your stay, visit the city’s clutch of art-rich galleries and insightful museums, before feasting on plates of ceviche washed down with punchy pisco sours – just save room for the silk-smooth Amazonian chocolate.
Bejewelled with colonial architecture and laced with age-old ruins, the once capital of the Incan Empire is next on the agenda - Cusco, which you'll have the joy of exploring at your own pace. After a good night’s sleep, you’ll hop aboard a train towards your next marvellous destination: the awe-inspiring Machu Picchu. On a guided tour, you can marvel at the mysterious ruins of the 550-year-old Inca citadel presiding proudly over the Sacred Valley, against a dramatic backdrop of forest-cloaked Andes Mountains.
On returning to Cusco, you'll travel down to Puno by bus, stopping at four key cultural and ancient sites along the way. The next day, you'll take to the waters to float between the spellbinding Uros Islands on iconic Lake Titicaca. Here, you’ll visit Taquile – a tiny speck cast adrift from mainland Peru – and then you'll get the unparalleled opportunity to come face to face with local culture during an overnight stay at a family's home on the shores of Lake Titicaca, in the village of Luquina. After another night in Puno, you'll fly back to the UK with a veritable treasure chest of Peruvian memories. Good to know
Please be aware the Expedition Train only includes a 7kg carry-on allowance per person; we recommend leaving the rest of your luggage in the storage room of your hotel in Cusco to avoid additional charges.
Please note the following suggested gratuity guideline per person:
