Discover Iceland at your own pace with a self-drive holiday between two scenic destinations - including breakfast, dining discounts, a stay at a National Geographic-recommended unique lodge, flights and car hire

Hafnarfjordur

You€'ve seen the pictures, now experience it for yourself. In the past few years, Iceland has soared in popularity as a don't-miss destination, due in no small part to its magical, mythical landscape; full of jaw-dropping vistas, steamy springs and sprawling glaciers as well as its supporting role on Game of Thrones. Whilst you're in Hafnarfjordur near Reykjavik, make the most of your self-drive freedom and visit the Blue Lagoon, or drive into the super-scenic Golden Circle.

Husafell

Husafell in West Iceland combines fire and ice, with its unique situation between a glacier and a lava field. It's a superb place from which to view the Northern Lights without light pollution - on average, they make an appearance three times a week in the winter. The area is home to a plethora of natural wonders which you can explore, including Hraunfossar & Barnafoss waterfalls, the Krauma Geothermal Baths & Spa and the Langjokull Ice Cave. Tours that take you inside the glacier conveniently depart from just outside the hotel. You can also take a drive up to the scenic Westfjords, pay a visit to the "Troll Rock", Hvitserkur, or head towards the Snæfellsnes peninsula, often compared to a miniature version of Iceland for its diverse scenery. There you can watch for seals at Ytri Tunga beach, walk alongside the bird-blanketed cliffs of Arnarstapi, visit the ancient fishing village of Hellnar, and snap Kirkjufell - the most photographed mountain in Iceland. And to top if off? You'll be checking in to one of National Geographic's Unique Lodges of the World.

Good to know

Please be aware that the Northern Lights are a naturally occurring phenomenon, so whilst we hope you'll get to see them, we can't guarantee they'll oblige.
