A stately 18th-century villa stay near Italy’s UNESCO-listed city of Vicenza, including breakfast, welcome extras and an a la carte dinner option for longer stays

Though lesser-known than its glamorous neighbour Venice, UNESCO-listed Vicenza – one of Italy's wealthiest cities after Turin and Milan – manages to pack in plenty of superb museums, galleries, gourmet restaurants and designer boutiques. And the buildings aren’t bad either, thanks to its famous son, Andrea Palladio, who gave his name to an entire style of architecture.

So it’s easy to see why the all-white, 18th-century Hotel Villa Michelangelo in the nearby town of Arcugnano is such a stylish pick for luxury-lovers. Overlooking the Colli Berici hills and snow-capped Prealps, the look in each of the rooms and suites is rustic-chic – think beamed ceilings, polished Venetian floors or fine carpets, marble-clad bathrooms, and ample home-from-home comforts. There are also stunning gardens filled with lemon trees, as well as a gorgeous outdoor pool for sunny days.

But the pièce de résistance is La Loggia – the signature dining spot spread across four supremely elegant rooms that showcases exquisitely-crafted Venetian cuisine courtesy of culinary wizard Nicola Negretto. Equally noteworthy is the lovely Bar La Loggia that’s just perfect for light bites, champagne, made-to-order cocktails and delicious dessert wines.
