Newport guestroom with one king bed

An iconic award-winner on Newport’s famed Bellevue Avenue, dating back to 1926, with world-class dining

Newport's Hotel Viking boasts an incredible story, a loyal following and serious style. This Historic Hotel of America sits right in the heart of the city’s downtown, on Bellevue Avenue (of the famed Gilded Age summer "cottages"). In its 90-odd years, this TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence winner has accommodated dignitaries, hosted weddings in its landmark chapel and garnered accolades from the best in the business: Condé Nast Traveler, The Boston Globe and USA Today, to name three. The gorgeous boutique property opened in 1926 and continues to impress, today boasting a lovely spa; an excellent restaurant; and a seasonal rooftop bar.

Nearly everything worth seeing in town is within walking distance of your address atop the Historic Hill neighborhood; not only the mansions, but the shops of Thames Street and the Cliff Walk, can be accessed on foot (and should be, because it’s the best way to take in the charming colonial architecture throughout the residential blocks). But there’s plenty to keep you busy right here, like sampling sundaes at ice-cream socials, practicing yoga at weekend classes, or making s’mores. For a special treat, hear about the days when JFK, Ella Fitzgerald, the Astors and the Vanderbilts holed up in the capacious rooms. Then, to follow in their footsteps, and head up to your own elegant, perfectly appointed accommodation – complete with a cherry wardrobe, a beveled-glass door and a soft satin duvet.
