The Palace of Versailles needs no introduction – famed the world over for its jaw-droppingly ornate Hall of Mirrors and exquisite fountain-strewn formal gardens. The town of the same name boasts its own attractions too, among them the charming and intimate Hotel des Roys, which sits within sight and walking distance of the palace entrance. Housed in an elegant 18th-century townhouse, its blue painted frontage is in keeping with the period and leads the way into a calm and recently renovated world.

Sup on a Nespresso coffee as you check in or enjoy something a little stronger from the hotel bar, which now boasts a brand-new terrace. Settle into the restful, newly refurbished haven that is your room before discovering all the excitement of Versailles with its shops, bars and restaurants. Come morning, a delicious breakfast will set up for a day at the Palace - and you’ll certainly need at least a day to fully take in its many wonders, which include 700 rooms, the UNESCO World Heritage-listed King’s Garden, Royal Stables and more. Hotel des Roys effortlessly garnered a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence.
